Senior Tech Professionals: Why the Irish Market Has Changed and What to Do About It

One thing I am noticing more throughout 2026 is that the senior end of the market is far more targeted than it once was. Companies are being more specific now than they were a few years ago and tend to hire against a particular problem rather than hiring broad leadership profiles. There is also more caution at decision making stage, and any perceived gap, even a relatively minor one, is enough to stop a process. I have spoken to a good number of senior professionals who are getting to final stage but not getting the offer.

Many senior professionals entering the market for the first time in years are surprised by how much things have changed. Historically, seniority and tenure carried a lot of weight. Today, hiring managers are trying to understand how relevant a candidate’s experience is to a specific challenge. This means candidates need to be much more intentional about how they present themselves, both on their CV and LinkedIn profile.

Practical changes that make a difference on a Senior Tech CV

  • The first is to reduce the amount of detail on older positions. The strongest focus should be on the last eight to ten years and the experience most relevant to the target role.
  • The opening profile section has high value and it is worth using it carefully. Steer away from vague seniority statements and use it instead to showcase delivery credibility. What have you actually built, changed or delivered? That is what a hiring manager is looking for.
  • The experience sections should carry a targeted narrative that reinforces how you added value to the business and what you personally delivered or achieved.
  • I’d suggest structuring each experience section into 4 areas. There is no need to use the headings, but rather just to make sure each point is covered adequately.
    • Scope – (team size, budget, environment)
    • Transformation – (what you built or changed)
    • Delivery – (what you executed)
    • Impact – (outcomes)

What the Senior Tech Market market values right now

Ireland’s tech market still values experienced leadership, particularly in areas like transformation, cyber security, AI adoption and cloud strategy. You can see the current demand across our Tech Senior Leadership roles if you want a sense of what organisations are actively hiring for. Similarly, please see our Executive Leadership Salary Guide for some salary benchmarks.

The market has become more focused and commercially driven but experience still carries real weight. The shift is that it is no longer enough to have done something. The question hiring managers are asking is whether what you did is directly relevant to the problem they are trying to solve right now.
