A leading financial services organisation based in Dublin is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team.
While you will leverage your development background (Java and Python) to contribute to application modernization, this position is a hybrid of hands-on software engineering and intensive infrastructure, remediation, and platform delivery. You will act as the technical engine and coordinator driving critical upgrades, vulnerability remediations, and technology currency (EOL/NPT) across multiple platforms.
You must be equally comfortable writing code, optimizing database schemas, troubleshooting Jenkins/Ansible pipelines, and driving cross-functional alignment across infrastructure, security, and database teams to ensure our production environments are secure, modern, and strictly compliant.
*6 month contract to start with but expected to roll/extend *3 days per week onsite *Daily rate depending on experience: 600-950 per day
Core Responsibilities:
Contribute to engineering work across multiple MRT platforms, including microservices modernization, cloud-ready refactoring, Java applet modernization, and utilizing AI-assisted engineering practices to accelerate delivery.
Drive critical remediation work—including EOL (End-of-Life) technology upgrades, vulnerability patching, key rotation, and password vaulting—from initial discovery to successful production closure.
Partner with software developers, database administrators (DBAs), server/infrastructure teams, middleware groups, and cyber security partners to translate security and platform risks into actionable delivery plans.
Validate implementation plans, challenge weak remediation approaches, and ensure rigorous testing, rollback strategies, and post-release checks are executed flawlessly.
Translate technical execution into clear, concise executive updates, highlighting key milestones, blockers, and risk escalations.
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong professional experience in Java (Spring, Spring Boot) and Python (Flask, FastAPI, Django). Solid grasp of microservices, REST APIs, and application modernization patterns. Exposure to React for UI is a plus.
Practical, hands-on knowledge of DB2 and SQL Server (including SQL tuning) running on Linux/Unix environments.
Experience configuring and running pipelines using Ansible and Jenkins (or similar multi-CI/CD pipeline models) to deploy platform upgrades.
Familiarity with practical AI-assisted software engineering tools to improve delivery velocity.
Proven experience driving vulnerability patching, compliance closures, and NPT/EOL software upgrades in a highly regulated environment.
Strong professional maturity and communication skills. Ability to run multi-team discussions, assign ownership, track milestones, and hold disparate teams accountable to deadlines.
