Latest AI Fintech Hiring Trends
Part of this interview featured on Silicon Republic here. Ireland is still punching above its weight in the Fintech space, and particularly when it comes to AI adoption. Ireland has a disproportionately high number of AI-first fintech startups and major AI R&D centres, which combined, are generating exceptional talent in FinTech AI innovation. I think it’s fair to say that Ireland’s Fintech industry is among the most progressive in Europe and continues to be a launchpad location for AI-powered Fintech innovation.
Unsurprisingly the strongest hiring demand is for candidates with AI / ML technical expertise, coupled with Financial / Regulatory sector knowledge. However, it’s the candidates who can operate fluidly across departments that will stand out. AI doesn’t operate in a silo and is embedded across many business departments – data privacy, UX, risk, and compliance, so communication and collaborative problem-solving skills can be valued as much as specific tech knowledge.
Below are three particularly interesting areas of growth within the Fintech sector, and some of the emerging roles in each space.
AI Advisors
- “Robo-Advisors” have been around for some time now; however, AI is advancing money management far beyond the one-size-fits-all advice model. These products can analyse income, spending habits, savings goals, and behaviour patterns to give quick personalised guidance including portfolio rebalancing and tax optimisation. Irish Fintech Moneycube are offering sophisticated deeply personalised investment guidance which is accessible for the everyday person.
- For high-net-worth clients many companies are favouring a hybrid model, combining traditional relationship managers with AI. As a result, more niche positions such as: Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) Engineers will be increased demand. HITL Engineering needs a blended skillset of System Engineering, AI Integration, Compliance with strong collaboration skills across tech and non-tech.
AI in RegTech
- With the increasing regulatory scrutiny, FinTechs are investing heavily in AI Compliance Automation to drive efficiencies in compliance and risk management. Irish RegTech – Corlytics is arguably leading the way in regulatory risk intelligence. They provide a complete regulatory lifecycle solution, which can classify regulatory updates so customers can align internal policies in almost real-time.
- Due to demand we are seeing more people from model risk or compliance backgrounds upskill into AI Model Monitoring Engineering positions. AI Model Monitoring requires full visibility across the AI production lifecycle, with expertise in ML monitoring tools (Arize AI, Fiddler AI, Evidently AI etc) and observability stacks (Prometheus, Splunk, ELK stack etc)
AI in Climate-FinTech
- Ireland’s climate-fintech sector is still small, but with increasing venture interest levels, its set to continue to grow for the foreseeable. As sustainable finance becomes more of a strategic priority, Irish startups ups are leveraging AI to drive sustainable solutions. Much of the focus to date has been on carbon tracking, ESG reporting and transaction donations to the end consumer.
- GridBeyond is one of the Irish innovators operating at a B2B level globally. They provide an AI energy management solution, which helps companies optimize usage, reduce costs, and generate revenue by participating in the energy markets / grid-balancing.
Climate Analytics is an interesting niche within Data Science for scenario modelling and stress testing climate risk on portfolios. Data Scientists in this space will analyse data on regulations, emissions, weather patterns to test green financing and carbon trading strategies.
