Tech Lead, Delivery (Java), Dublin – Contract

Seeking a seasoned Tech Lead, Delivery (Java) to spearhead large-scale engineering initiatives for a major financial institution. This role is based onsite in Dublin (3 days per week) and requires a strategic leader with deep roots in Java development and experience bridging modern distributed systems with legacy mainframe environments.

The Role
You will oversee a 40+ member engineering organization, driving the delivery of mission-critical banking applications. This position demands a blend of technical depth, financial acumen, and the ability to influence executive-level stakeholders.

*1 year contract expected to extend/roll
*500-550 per day daily rate
*3 days per week onsite in Dublin 

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Leadership: Drive delivery for Java services and microservices integrating with mainframe-based core banking systems.
• Team Management: Mentor a 40+ member cross-functional team, fostering a culture of accountability and engineering excellence.
• Strategic Roadmap: Develop long-term plans for API-led integration and platform modernization.
• Operations & Budget: Manage annual technology budgets, vendor performance (multi-vendor environments), and cost-optimization initiatives.
• Stakeholder Influence: Communicate strategy and risks effectively to senior executive leadership.

Required Skills & Experience

• 20+ years of IT experience with a strong background in hands-on leadership.
• Tech Stack: Expert knowledge of Java, Spring, and Microservices combined with Mainframe (COBOL, JCL, DB2) integration.
• Domain Expertise: Proven track record in Core Banking systems and regulatory requirements.
• Large-Scale Delivery: Experience managing large teams and multi-million dollar budgets.
• Transformation: Strategic thinker with experience delivering large-scale legacy modernization programs.
